This 8-page booklet entitled “Remembering the Rising” from the Dublin Council of Trade Unions has featured articles on Peadar Macken, Richard O’Carroll and Joseph Patrick Nannetti and a facsimile of the Dublin Trades Council minutes for April and May 1916. It also includes a brief history of the Dublin Trades Council and its involvement in the build up to the 1916 Easter Rising.

Impact Trade Union-Four Lives-Roots in the 1916 Rising

This 45-page booklet compiled and written by Shay Cody was officially launched on Thursday 28th January 2016 by Minister of State for New Communities, Culture, Equality and Drug Strategy Aodhán O’Riordáin at the Union’s Dublin Office. The launch was attended by members of the Ceannt, Connolly and O’Donovan families. The booklet published in an edition of 5,000 copies highlights the role played by four members of the Impact Trade Union in the 1916 Easter Rising; Con O’Donovan was a member of the IRB and the Irish Volunteers. He fought in the Four Courts. Seán Connolly was a member of the Irish Citizen Army. He was the first insurgent killed in action during the Rising from a sniper’s bullet from Dublin Castle. Harry Nicholls was a Captain in the 4th Battalion of the Dublin Brigade of the Volunteers. He was based in St. Stephen’s Green during the hostilities and Éamonn Ceannt one of the Seven Signatories of the Proclamation.
