Carlow

 

A Commemoration booklet produced by the Tullow 2016 Commemoration Committee for events to honour Thomas Traynor on Sunday 24th April 2016. Born in Tullow in 1882, Thomas Traynor was a member of the Boland’s Mill Garrison during Easter Week. During the War of Independence, he was attached to B Company 3rd Battalion Dublin Brigade. He was captured during an engagement with the Black and Tans in Pearse Street and subsequently hanged in Mountjoy Jail on 25th April 1921.

A 19-page 1916-2016 Souvenir Programme from Carlow GAA for a re-enactment of the Carlow 1916 Hurling and Football Club Finals held on Saturday 2nd April 2016 at Netwatch, Cullen Park; Hurling Bagenalstown v Carlow-Graigue and Football Tullow v Tinryland. The booklet includes the following; team-sheets for the 1916 and 2016 teams and match reports for the 1916 finals, information on the GAA in Tinryland in 1916, profiles of the 1916 players from all four teams and the early days of the GAA in Tullow and Carlow-Graigue.

The Carlow County Council Art’s Office and the County Library Service commissioned artist Michael Fortune to produce a series of short films based on the lead up to and following the 1916 Easter Rising in County Carlow. This leaflet entitled “1916 Stories from Carlow” seeks assistance from the general public with the project.

A leaflet entitled “Carlow 1916 Commemorative Stained Glass” published by Carlow County Museum & Tourist Office. This 1916 Commemorative Stained Glass Mural by Peadar Lamb was unveiled on Thursday 21st July 2016 in Carlow County Museum. Measuring 2.5 meters wide by 1.5 meters high, it depicts some of the key Carlow figures and the role they played in the 1916 Easter Rising; Micheál O’Hanrahan, nurse Margaret Kehoe, Father Albert Bibby and Thomas Traynor.

Carlow Remembers 1916-Dublin Street Commemoration

A 4-page leaflet for a 1916 Dublin Street Commemoration event held on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd April 2016 featuring period window displays, exhibitions and shop staff dressed in period costumes.

An 8-page leaflet entitled “A Forgotten Truth” produced by the Clonegal/Kildavin Veteran Players Group for a commemorative programme held on Sunday 1st May 2016 at Spellman Park for Father Daniel Murphy.

This publication entitled “My Area in 1916” is a collaboration project between six secondary schools in the Dublin Central area, project historian Donal Fallon and Dublin City Public Libraries. It draws together original research by the students on the 1916 Easter Rising in their areas as well as profiles of some of the rebels. The book also includes rare images from the Dublin City Library and Archive as well as artwork from the students. The book cover shows Margaret Skinnider. The six schools that took part in the project were; Larkin’s Community College, O’Connell School, Mount Carmel Secondary School, St. Paul’s CBS, St. Joseph’s Secondary School and Belvedere College.

A 32-page programme of events for the 2016 Dublin Festival of History held from the 23rd September 2016 to 8th October 2016 at the Dublin Castle Printworks and venues around the city. Managed by Dublin City Public Libraries, this 4th annual Dublin Festival of History featured special guest talks, exhibitions and theatre performances with events throughout the programme marking the Centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising.

A Programme of events for the Dublin One City One Book 2016 Festival. The Lia Mills novel “Fallen” published by Penguin Ireland was chosen as the book choice for 2016. It tells the story of Dubliners against the backdrop of the events of Easter Week 2016.

A leaflet entitled “Roger Casement: High Treason” for Alan Phelan’s Our Kind Exhibition which ran from 10th March 2016 to 2nd October 2016 at the Hugh Lane Gallery. This exhibition formed part of the Hugh Lane Gallery’s Artist as Witness 1916-2016 programme and included a programme of talks which gave an insight into Roger Casement’s life and legacy.

A 39-page pocket sized paperback companion booklet entitled “Six days that shook Dublin” produced by Dublin Discovery Trails as part of a series of self-guided walking trails. The booklet contains information on the 1916 Easter Rising and a map showing the twelve most important locations of the rebellion and what happened at each location.

Fingal

 

This booklet from Fingal County Council entitled “Fingal and the 1916 Rising” tells the story of members of the Irish Volunteers, the Irish Citizen Army and Cumann na mBan from the area and the event that became known as the Battle of Ashbourne, the largest engagement anywhere outside Dublin City during the 1916 Easter Rising. The booklet also includes a map which shows the important locations where actions took place.

A booklet produced for the exhibition “Looking Back-Looking Forward” a ceramic wall sculpture created by students and teachers from all nine secondary schools in Laois to commemorate the Centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising. A 23-page booklet produced by the Dunshauglin and District Historical Society in memory of James Fox who was killed during the Easter Rising at St. Stephen’s Green on 28th April 1916. He was digging trenches under orders from Michael Mallin when he was fired on by machine-guns from the soldiers above him. Also lists the schedule for the commemorative events held on Easter Sunday 27th March 2016.

A 12-page booklet and poster entitled “Offaly 100” for a commemorative concert held on Sunday 20th March 2016 at the Church of the Assumption in Tullamore, a Ceremony of Remembrance and a Candlelit Walk from Tullamore Courthouse. Performers in the concert included the following; Offaly County Council Choir, St. Colmcille’s Pipe Band, Tullamore Town Band, Birr Choral Society, Offaly Comhaltas, Ruaile Bualie, St. Manchan’s Choir, Edenderry Rockers and Eden Chorale.

An invitation and 15-page booklet entitled “One Family-Many Visions” an exhibition of artworks by eleven relatives and descendants of Eamonn Bulfin which was held on Tuesday 23rd August 2016 at the County Council Offices in Tullamore. A specially commissioned Commemorative Bronze Plaque by Eamonn Bulfin’s Granddaughter Siobhán Bulfin was also unveiled. In the 1916 Easter Rising, Eamonn Bulfin was given the Green Flag with the words Irish Republic by William Pearse to hoist over the GPO.

An educational pack entitled “Offaly and the Rising-An Educational Resource” comprising two booklets and a DVD. The first booklet is a comprehensive bibliography of the research resources available from the Offaly Library Service; collections, local interest material, newspapers, contemporary sources, biographies, general Irish Interest, fiction and children’s material. The second booklet provides an overview to County Offaly’s connections to the 1916 Easter Rising. It also focus’s on the civilian casualties and eye-witness accounts from County Offaly and documents the combatants from County Offaly who fought in Dublin and the reactions from the county to the Rising.

The 1916 Rising and County Wexford an educational resource was produced by Wexford County Council’s Library Service. This pack highlights County Wexford’s contribution to the Easter Rising and uses extracts from original documents of the period. Letters, newspaper accounts and witness statements are included.

Wicklow

 

An events booklet entitled “Kilcoole Remembers 1916-2016″ produced by the Kilcoole Heritage Group for a Heritage Weekend from Friday 2nd June to Monday 5th June 2016. This community event included a wide range of debates, exhibitions and re-enactments. Kilcoole was the venue for a gun-running operation in which more than 600 rifles were landed for the Irish Volunteers.
