Change, Commemoration, Community

The 22nd Australasian Irish Studies Conference was held between the 29th November and 2nd December 2016 in Flinders University Adelaide. The conference encompassed all the significant events in Ireland’s political, social and economic life and was particularly significant in 2016 when there was a spotlight on commemorating the Centenary of the Easter Rising.

Commemorative Mass Booklet for Roger Casement

This booklet is for a Commemorative Mass celebrated in the crypt of Westminster Cathedral, London on Monday 1st August 2016 for the 100th anniversary of the execution of Roger Casement. The special mass was celebrated by Fr. Gerry McFlynn of the Irish Chaplaincy and Fr. Stephen Coker the Catholic Chaplain of Pentonville Prison. Members of Roger Casement’s family and the Congolese Chaplaincy also took part. The Ambassador of Peru, the High Commissioner of Mozambique and members of LGBT Catholics Westminster were among the congregation. This booklet was given only to participants on the day. I received my copy from Declan Ganly, Irish Chaplaincy Administrator. It is the office copy.
